Professional Development
The Association, pioneered the continuing professional development program among professional organizations in Nigeria. Council identified the need to keep members up to date on a regularly basis and resolved to make the training mandatory.
Facilitators are drawn from accounting/tax practitioners, lawyers, academics among others in specialized areas to share practical knowledge with members.
AFRICA REGIONAL TRAINING
PAN AFRICAN ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATION
Hajia Maryam Ladi Ibrahim represented the Association at Africa regional learning workshop organised by Eastern Central and Southern African Federation of Accountants (ECSAFA), Fédération Internationale des Experts-Comptables Francophones (FIDEF), Interntional Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). It was hosted by ESCAFA and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), sponsored by the African Development Bank (ADB) and co-sponsored by the World Bank and IFAC.in Nairobi, Kenya.
ACCOUNTANCY BODIES OF WEST AFRICA
Hajia Maryam Ladi Ibrahim also represented the Association at another Regional Workshop for Accountancy Bodies of West Africa in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
IFAC REGIONAL WORKSHOP ABUJA
Professors Akpa and Wilson Herbert among others represented ANAN at the IFAC Regional Workshop recently held in Abuja Nigeria in October 2008.
2009 AND BEYOND
In 2009 ANAN, is hoping to expand collaborations with other organisations in Africa and around the world for capacity building.
MEMBERS DEVELOPMENT
ANAN MCPD is a mandatory quarterly professional development program. It is taken closer to members in various geographical zones to enable them participate. Three sessions have been held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, South South and kaduna in the North Central Area as well as South West since the year. The last session is planned in Yola Gongola State North Eastern Area of Nigeria in December 2008.
PRACTITIONERS' FORUM
The Association also organizes mandatory public practice forum for members in public accounting practice. The core areas of assurance and related practice, taxation and value added consulting services are ever evolving. Practitioners need to be current in these areas to maintain both client and public trust.
OVERSEAS TRAINING
Members are given the opportunity to participate in overseas training through a number of collaborations with reputable institutions. The past president Professor E.R. Iwok led a team of members to the World Congress of Accountants at Istanbul Turkey. Samuel O. Nzekwe and over 30 members were at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States in May 2008. Another training in collaboration with Crown Agents Bank in United Kingdom was concluded in August 2008 with over 25 members participating.
