The President of ANAN, Samuel Nzekwe has called on President Umaru Yar'Adua to withhold assent to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria Bill which he alleged had been falsified and doctored. The Bill is currently being deliberated upon by the House of Representatives.
Nzekwe said in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos, Nigeria by the Registrar and Chief Executive of ANAN, Sir Peter Ibekwe, that the falsification in the Bill was made in an aspect that had to do with the composition of membership of the Governing Board of Council.
ANAN COMMENDS EFCC
The Association is happy with the activities of the Commission and has taken note of the tremendous feat achieved so far in reducing, economic and financial crimes which have dented the image of the country in the comity of nations.
We charge the Commission to apply equity and fairness in the discharge of its statutory duties and should not be seen to crumble in the face of pressure and intimidation. The body polity needs to be sanitized to make the Federal Government’s clarion call for foreign direct investment in the country meaningful. We urge the Commission to remain focused and maintain the tempo.
ESSENCE OF THE ASSOCIATION’S VISIT
The visit to the Commission is a follow-up to actualize the collaborative efforts between the Association and the Commission on capacity building, with particular emphasis on training the trainer program, rubbing minds on issues of national interest and to familiarize the Association with the Commission’s new leadership.

PRESIDENT OF ANAN
DURING A TWO - DAY WORKSHOP ON CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND FINANCIAL REPORTING FOR PUBLIC QUOTED COMPANIES ORGANISED BY SEC IN COLLABORATION WITH CAPITAL MARKET INSTITUTE BETWEEN 20TH TO 21ST MAY, 2008.
PROTOCOL
On behalf of myself, the Governing Council and the entire members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, I would like to express our gratitude to the Securities and Exchange Commission for seeing me worthy to give a goodwill message at the opening ceremony of this workshop.
This workshop would not have come at a better time than this period, a period we just witnessed the sanctioning of some preparers of financial statements with material misstatements.
This singular act by the Commission has shown that no body or Institution can be bigger than the nation and is in line with the age long principle of the Rule of Law preached and practiced by the present administration. This aptly shows that the Commission is alive to its responsibilities and discharging its duties diligently and honestly in accordance with laid down codes. We urge the Commission not to relent in this exercise until the entire polity is sanitized.
There is the need for the Commission to ensure that stakeholders have a clear understanding of their roles and duties in publishing financial statements. One key way of improving the standard and inculcating Corporate Governance in the way and manner the affairs of companies are conducted is to ensure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of their roles.
